Our History

From its beginning, the Newfane Soccer Club has been a completely
volunteer organization focused on providing our kids with a fun
and instructional place to learn the game of soccer.
The Newfane Soccer Club was the creation of Detlev Enseleit who
grew up in Germany surrounded by Soccer. Det’s family moved to

Newfane when he was 15 years old. As an adult, his own 2 children
grew to love Soccer and he quickly noticed that many Newfane
children played soccer in nearby soccer clubs.
Prior to its inception, children from Newfane needed to travel to
Wilson or Lockport to play. Det started the program approximately
20 years ago with very limited funds and a few volunteers. Soccer
was new to the Newfane area so Det served as coach, treasurer,
and president. He organized teams, created schedules, created
forms, organized registration, and painted and laid out fields.
Many people now do the many tasks that Det performed
single-handedly and find it hard to comprehend how he managed
to do them all without the computer programs and soccer equipment
that we have today.
The program started out with slightly over 100 participants on
temporary fields at NECC. Eventually he was able to obtain a
great location for the soccer fields in Olcott just east of
Krull Park on the scenic Lake Ontario shore. Under Det's guidance
the program grew quickly. This summer the program will provide
over almost 500 of Newfane’s children with an inexpensive, instructional,
and fun summer activity.
Sadly, Mr. Enseleit passed away in the summer of 2003 but his
vision still lives on today.  He will always be remembered for putting
the children first. His legacy continues as many volunteers have
stepped up to ensure that the Newfane Soccer Club will go on
and continue to thrive. Over the years there have been several
volunteers who helped manage the club including the Robinsons,
the Huguenors, the McFarlanes, and now the current committee.
Thanks so much to all our players, parents, volunteers, coaches,
and referees. Without your help the Newfane Soccer Club could
not provide our summer soccer program to the Newfane community.
We realize that a good soccer program benefits the community and
builds character in our youth.
Please contact us if you would like to volunteer or have any
suggestions to make our club better.
Det would be proud!
